When an athlete is being provided with an athletic scholarship
and their athletic skills is the way for them to gain the proper education in
life , it’s hard to overcome the fact of all that dedication and all you trained
for and planned to happen gets revoked or even put on pause because of an
unexpected injury.

A Dream Cut Short

A dream came true for Kyle Hardrick he is gaining an
opportunity of suiting up for his first NCAA Basketball game. After committing
to the University of Oklahoma as a ninth-grader, Hardrick finally got the chance
to get on the court in 2009. But over the next two years, would you believe that
a 6-foot, 8-inch forward would only have a chance to play 6 minutes? He
sustained a knee injury that put his future and scholarship on
hold. Although Hardrick
tried to restart his career, he has been unable to obtain a medical hardship
waiver; he needs that to regain a year of college eligibility. His family has
been stuck with an extraordinary about of tuition bills since his scholarship
was not renewed. And to make the situation worse with all those bills unpaid, he
also can’t get his academic transcripts from Oklahoma to transfer to another
school. His mother Valerie Hardrick states, “You believe that your child will be
taken care of on and off that court throughout their college career .” The
disillusion that was faced in her child’s situation was the fact that she was in
a blind sight that her child would be taken care of even in the event of an
injury. Being a parent knowing that your child has been critically injured in
the sport that they strived to be great at, you shouldn’t have to worry about
their academics being interfered with.
